Wikimedia Belgium approved as chapter by the Board of Trustees[edit]

Hello all,

Today I can officially announce the happy news that Wikimedia Belgium is recognized by the Wikimedia Foundation as chapter (and formally need to found WMBE and sign documents/agreements). After the approval of the Affiliations Committee on 23 June 2014, the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has approved with a meeting on 6 August 2014 at Wikimania in London the resolution for the recognition of Wikimedia Belgium. This resolution has been published on 29 August.

Now we can take our next steps in the foundation of Wikimedia Belgium.

Rounding up Wikimedia Belgium constitution[edit]

We are now in the process of finalizing the founding of the Wikimedia Belgium vzw.

I think we should clean up this portal page, move all the projectstuff to the archives, and make a decent introduction of the new asociation. We should present our past projects and events, show an agenda of up coming and planned events, calls for future events to be organised, and a general box to handle our association's official business --DerekvG (talk) 17:37, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikinic 7 juni 2015 in Louveigné[edit]

This section has been removed. An user banned on nl.wikipedia for sockpuppet and other disruptive activities wanted to organize a picnic at fr.wikipedia, removed from this local project and without any endorsement from a trusted user known on Wikimedia projects. Furthermore, they is now banned from fr.wikipedia by a former steward with the comment « troll ».

What does a banned username at dutch wikipedia have to do with an event in Belgium? Also why are you accusing me in public to be the banned sockpuppet meta:Vandalism reports/BogaertB?
WARNING BOGUS ANNOUNCEMENT +++ WARNING BOGUS EVENT
The Wikinic in Louveigné announced by Kolonel_Zeiksnor is a bogus event, it was a personal initiative by the individual in question and has nothing to do with Wikimedia Belgium
THERE IS NO EVENT IN LOUVEIGNE(SPRIMONT) if you turn up at this evetn you might even get arrested because no authorisation has been given or requested form the local Bourgemstreś office, for any kind of public envent like a wikinic / picnic or whatsoever for jun 7th !!!! --DerekvG (talk) 10:53, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Would someone know who is Kolonel Zeiksnor?

We suspect this user could be a banned sockpuppet, see meta:Vandalism reports/BogaertB. --Dereckson (talk) 19:38, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, that is me. My former sockpuppet at fr wikipedia is Jos met zijn bromfiets. Welcome to Wikimedia Belgique Dereckson :) De Kolonel (talk) 19:42, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, we're discussing about this issue on #wikimedia-stewards. People there, stewards and nl.wikipedia administrators along, are very suspicious on the capability of Kolonel Zeiksnor to organize an event. It could exist a risk for contributors to go to this event. --Dereckson (talk) 20:23, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Removed degoratory and stalking comments. --Dereckson (talk) 21:42, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify, nobody has accused the user Kolonel Zeiksnor of having threatened an user. A checkuser request has been made to verify if the user Kolonel Zeiksnor connection information matches or not the connection information of the person who had such a pattern of abuse, including threatened other users, amongst them Esprit Fugace at a pique-nique. The fact both of them use pique-nique as opportunity for harassment or trollism is a pattern or a coincidence, this is to the CU to help to find elements about that. --Dereckson (talk) 18:46, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Conferentie Nederland, November 28th, 2015 in Utrecht[edit]

Hello, also in 2015 Wikimedia Nederland holds its annual conference. This time we will be a little bit more conscious about sessions in English. Please read our call for speakers, and consider to come to Utrecht. We connect people in the Netherlands who are interested in Wikipedia, free knowledge and our other topics. --Ziko (talk) 10:11, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Journal Libre[edit]

Goedemiddag, hello, bonjour,

A bientôt ! Lionel Scheepmans Contact French native speaker, désolé pour ma dysorthographie 14:19, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

Salut Lionel,

JavaScript[edit]

Hi. I can see that this project is in script error. I would happily fix that, but I would have to – at least temporarily – become an admin here to do that (because the relevant pages are in the MediaWiki namespace). If you want me to fix this, you can grant me admin rights and I will fix this as soon as I can. Nirmos (talk) 22:24, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nirmos, sorry for this big delay on this reply. Here is the list of all bureaucrats of this wiki : https://be.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:ListUsers?username=&group=bureaucrat&wpsubmit=&wpFormIdentifier=mw-listusers-form&limit=50 maybe you can contact them one by one ? Translation notification[edit]

@Romaine: do you think there is a reason not to get wmgUseTranslationNotifications enabled for this wiki?

This is an option enabled on meta and some other chapters wiki to notify people for translation-related events. --Dereckson (talk) 18:08, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Twitter account[edit]

Hi there !

I follow with love the wikimedia-be twitter account to keep up to date with news, events, and information about the chapter. But when I look at the timeline, I'd say 90% of the tweets doesn't interest me. In fact, you feed my timeline with spams.

Therefore,

  • if I'm the only one with this problem, I can block your retweets (and potentially miss some great news about Wikimedia in Belgium) ;
  • if not, maybe you should consider reducing your activity on twitter.

Please, let me know… --Hildepont (talk) 23:33, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hildepont, Thank you for your interest in Wikimedia Belgium!
Our main news channel for informing our Wikimedia community is through our Newsletter to what people can subscribe. In this newsletter we collect news, events, and other news related to Wikimedia in Belgium. Our Twitter account is intended to reach a broader public and to connect to as many people as possible. On Twitter we try to tweet and retweet only about those subjects that are useful for the people we reach out to, meaning about our activities, but also about those subjects that can be of interest for them. Our mission is to reach out to as many people as possible and connect with them.
From time to time we are also active in certain events, and then you may see some more retweets passing by to show to our public what interesting is passing by on site. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 07:48, 10 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki 4 Coop[edit]

Hello everyone,

I come to you to invite to re-read the submission of a new partnership project between the Wikimedia movement and the Belgian NGOs. The project is titled Wiki 4 Coop and I invite you to discover its submission page on Meta-Wiki. Do not hesitate to endorse the project if you like it and even correct my English if you have a little time. Nieuw project[edit]

:) Vriendelijke groet, --Livenws (talk) 22:58, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiwoordenboek Lexemen in bulk opladen naar Wikidata[edit]

Miscategorization of the Newsletters[edit]

Hello,

A lot of Newsletters article are classified into a sub-category of Category:Translations needed (either for Dutch, French or German). I guess it's because of the use of the Template:Title in the articles, while each language has its own page (the template has only one language and that is why the article is categorized in "Translations needed into ..."). Am I right ? How to fix it ? Is it with a simple {{DISPLAYTITLE:XXX}} instead of {{Title|lang=XXX}} ?

Best regards,

Jona (talk) 10:11, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Correct, Jona, I have tried the change with Newsletter/2020-09/fr, and it works. I will do it for the other languages as well. Thanks for notifying me, and for correcting any remaining errors. Geertivp (talk) 14:14, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Usage of TranslateExtension[edit]

Hello everyone, I noticed that the TranslateExtension is installed in this wiki, but not in use. The only related discussion that I have found was Talk:Community Forum/archief/01062015#Request for Translation administrator in 2012. I would like to hear your opinions if this extension should be used here or not. If not, I would suggest to remove the extension. --Ameisenigel (talk) 13:22, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Ameisenigel, in fact we didn't use this extension for the reason explained in 2012. But I can imagine that since this time, the extension has changed a lot. If it's much easier to use it now and if there is somewhere, tutorials for learning how to use it, maybe we can see if we can check it one more time.
