Engaging people in free knowledge

Wikimedia Belgium is a Belgian non-profit organisation that promotes the collaborative projects of the Wikimedia Foundation like e.g. Wikipedia. It was founded on 27 September 2014 by a group of Wikimedia volunteers. Its domain of activity is Belgium. Together with sister organisations like Wikimedia Nederland, Wikimédia France, Wikimedia Deutschland, and Wikimedia UK it shares their respective language communities of Wikipedia. It is part of the worldwide Wikimedia Chapters organisation.

The main projects are: supporting the local community, providing Wikimedia training, collaboration with musea, cultural organisations, and education.

We are funded by national and international donations, collaboration with other organisations, and small contributions when organizing some activities.

About Wikipedia : UNLOCKING KNOWLEDGE

Wikipedia is an online encyclopaedia for everyone and by everyone. The content may be added, edited and reused by anyone, anywhere. The project started at 15 January 2001 with an English-language version in the United States and the Dutch, French and German version following in June 2001. The technical management of the site lies with the Wikimedia Foundation in the United States. Wikipedia has more than 285 language versions, and globally 100,000 volunteers - who keep more than 48 million articles up-to-date - and gets more than 450 million monthly unique visitors worldwide. The English Wikipedia has more than 4,000,000 articles. The Dutch, French and German Wikipedia each have more than a million articles.

About Wikimedia Belgium  : ENGAGING PEOPLE for free KNOWLEGDE

Wikimedia Belgium NPO is an independant association of volunteers in Belgium that actively seeks to engage all people in the quest to unlock knowledge, supports and organises (or co-organises) any initiative and activity with the objective to unlock (contribute) to (the sum) of free knowledge. Wikimedia Belgium adheres to a worldwide Wiki-vision and works to contribute to A world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.

The aim of the association and its volunteer member is to support the wiki-naut community in Belgium of people who are active contributors to the unlocking of knowledge on all different Wikimedia projects like Wikipedia, and it organsises social events like Wiki Loves Monuments.
