This page describes the Wikidata workshop organised in October 2018 in Brussels.

Purpose[edit]

The purpose of the workshop is to give institutions insight in how Wikidata works, how they can use Wikidata, and especially how to add data to Wikidata. The workshop is inspired on the one given on 14 May 2018 in the Netherlands.

History and background[edit]

On Monday 14 May, Europeana and Wikimedia hosted a day of free in-depth GLAM-Wiki workshops around Wikidata, and structured data on Wikimedia Commons, at the Europeana offices in The Hague. This day is organized in collaboration with, and preceded the EuropeanaTech Conference 2018, which took place in Rotterdam 15 and 16 May 2018. The Wikidata workshop was very successful, fully booked and not everyone could participate.

In 2015-2016 the import of data from some Flemish collections took place, see: Flemish art collections, Wikidata and Linked Open Data.

The workshop was given on 29 October 2018, the 6th birthday of Wikidata.
