Wiki Loves Art is an initiative by Wikimedia Belgium, in collaboration with Belgian cultural institutions and organisations.
Wikipedia is an online encyclopaedia for everyone and by everyone. The content may be added, edited and reused by anyone, anywhere. The project started at 15 January 2001 with an English-language version and the Dutch, French and German version following later that year. The technical management of the site lies with the Wikimedia Foundation. Wikipedia has more than 285 language versions, and globally 100,000 volunteers - who keep more than 48 million articles up-to-date - and gets more than 450 million monthly unique visitors worldwide. The English Wikipedia has more than 4,000,000 articles. The Dutch, French and German Wikipedia each have more than a million articles.
Wikimedia Belgium NPO is an association of volunteers from Wikipedia/Wikimedia in Belgium that actively work on getting free knowledge available through Wikipedia and its sister projects. Wikimedia Belgium supports and (co-)organises various initiatives and activities that aim for making free knowledge available for the worldwide public and adheres to a worldwide vision of working towards A world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.
