This is the WMBE 2024 strategic plan.
Partnerships with GLAM[edit]
We plan for more GLAM partnerships, backed by the Flemish Government. WMBE supports projects by providing volunteer collaboration and Wikimedia expertise (Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons). Propose preliminary workouts of projects to the direction of selected GLAM institutions. We want more partnerships with the French speaking community.
Wikimedia project management[edit]
We continue with the current documented way of conducting, supervising, and reporting our activities. This appears to be a solid way of doing projects. Some museums are taking over our way of working, and begin to also use project pages, ListeriaBot and the Events dashboard.
Attract more volunteers[edit]
We need to be able to better delegate the workload. We don't have employees. Therefore, we need to search for young and female board members, attract volunteer project managers, and appoint a freelance person. We can use GLAM writing sessions as a step-up to engage more volunteers.
Wikipedia in education[edit]
We have the impression that more and more university professors and assistants are willing to assign students a task to write a Wikipedia page within their knowledge domain as a preparation to extend the article into an academic paper. We can only advise professors to continue to do so to provide more interesting articles to the general public.
Collaboration with other affiliates[edit]
We continue to collaborate with neighbouring chapters and international Federations like Wikimedia Europe and WikiFranca. This covers all neighbouring languages. Some chapters are more involved in some specialised domains like WMSE in GLAM, and WMDE in Wikidata.
Enabling bot updates[edit]
We will assist as much as possible the automatic update of the Wikimedia platforms using for example Pywikibot scripts, templates, and structured data. Where possible we will develop core functionality for MediaWiki and Pywikibot. We want to use OpenRefine, ListeriaBot, Pywikibot scripts, and new technology like WikiFunctions, machine learning, and data search engines.
Build the Wikimedia strategy[edit]
We will assist as much as we can in the building of the international Wikipedia strategy. We will make sure that the international strategy is translated into local and national initiatives.
