Wikiducation - collaboration

[edit]

HiDerekvG and Romaine, I have read through the presentation of the project and in addition to its usefulness, of which I was sure, I find the project is really well conceived and organised. As regards the possibility to take part in it, my still limited knowledge of Dutch keeps me, as for now, from taking as active part in the schools, but I am certainly interested in two points:
- 1. the Volunteer Personal Development program: I have already taught the MediaWiki syntax in Italian high schools (about 5 lessons) this year during the Wikipedia va a scuola @ Asti 2014/15 project I have run in my city, Asti (Piedmont). Previously I had followed an introductory formation which we organised with Wikimedia Italia in Asti. By the way, the first product of this project is online since a few days: the Italian Wikivoyage page of Asti, made by three classes of a high school. Next year we are planning to improve it and translate into English. What I especially would like to do is to learn how to run an edit-a-thon and how to improve the way I can use Wikis for participatory didactics at University; which leads to point 2.
- 2. Next week I will know if my research project for a three-year Post-Doc in Liège will be accepted. The topic is related to Ancient History and the project will allow me to collaborate with Europeana Eagle, which already works with a Wiki (Eagle MediaWiki). This means I will have the chance to combine my research work with what I learn with you and, more important, that I could organise workshops and edit-a-thons with students and colleagues. In other words, I would like to act as an ambassador of digital participatory dicactics in Liège. But of course this point still needs to be confirmed. I keep fingers crossed.

More far-off: what about thinking of a future collaboration with Wikimedia Italia on education? something like cultural exchanges by which schools or groups go to the other country and write the page of places they visited in their own language? We could even think of European Projects for this.

Thanks for your attention and again, congratulations for your work!
