Structured Data on Commons

Structured Data on Commons (SDC) is a Wikibase instance for Wikimedia Commons that allows to register structured metadata about a media file.

• Depicts ((P180))
• ...

Technology

• Both Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons are using Wikibase as a database server.
• OpenRefine (fall 2022) will make it possible to update both instances.

Data instances

• Wikidata is documenting objects (items).
• SDC is documenting pictures
• both are LoD systems that are referring to each other
  • An image can use depicts (P180) to refer to a Wikidata item
