Scribus
Appearance
Scribus is a free Linux prepress tool to create publisher compatible PDF documents.
It is a useful alternative for InDesign and Acrobat Distiller.
Create a PDF

Conventions
[edit]The Belgian association of printers has agreed to use the medibel+ standard: ISOcoated_v2_300_eci.icc
certified PDF 1.3 CMYK.
Prepress conventions:
- PDF 1.3
- ISOcoated v2 300 format required (PDF/X-1:2001)
- Filename ends as _IC.pdf
- Most publishers require:
- specific dimensions
- minimum font point size
Images
[edit]Minimum 300 dpi required.
Setup
[edit]Required configuration files:
- /usr/local/share/color/icc/ISOcoated_v2_300_eci.icc (downloaded)
Known problems
[edit]- SVG is not recognized
- The File:Wikipedia-logo-v2-wordmark.svg crashes the application
- You can convert it to TIFF with GIMP
- The File:Wikipedia-logo-v2-wordmark.svg crashes the application
- Few (free) fonts are available
- Archaic interface (poor WYSIWYG)
- Difficult to see whether the right font was selected
