Phabricator
Phabricator is used by the Wikimedia community for project management, software requirements gathering, evaluating, planning, to organise hackathons, and for bug, security and operational problem reporting and solving.
It can also be used to manage affiliate or user projects.
It is available to all volunteers, chapters, user groups, software developers, and operational support in the Wikimedia movement. You can login with your Wikimedia-account.
Functionality
[edit]Create a ticket
[edit]- Perform an extensive search to prevent creating duplicates
- Give a good title (searchable!)
- Provide a decent description
- Including URLs to reproduce the problem (as simple as possible)
- Add subscribers
Renew task assignment
[edit]There is a maximum period of 2 years that you can work on a task.
(from an e-mail by Aklapper) You receive this message because you are one of 128 people who have open tasks in Wikimedia Phabricator assigned for more than two years.
Are you still realistically working (or planning to work) on them?
- If you do not plan to work on a task anymore, please remove yourself from the Assignee field (via "Add Action… 🡒 Assign / Claim" in the dropdown menu above the comment field), to avoid cookie-licking.
- If a task has been resolved or should not be worked on ("declined"), then please update its status via "Add Action… 🡒 Change Status".
- If you will work on a task soon and want to stay assigned, please remove yourself as assignee, and subsequently assign it again to yourself.

[edit]- Can become very technical
- A lot of tickets are extremely old (there are more requests than available developers, missing follow-up?)
Other tools
[edit]- Some applications use other tools like Volunteer Response Team (VRT), BitBucket, or GitHub for problem reporting and tracking.
