Two-factor authentication

From Wikimedia Belgium

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a technique to increase the protection of your user account, beyond a password.

It is mandatory for accounts having augmented (administrator) rights.

Fix the basics

[edit]
  • Choose a complicated unique password; on Linux you can use e.g. pwgen -y 15
  • Confirm your e-mail address (this allows resetting your password). Choose a stable, private e-mail domain, not your employer's and not your provider's general domain.

Prerequisites

[edit]

You require a trusted and supported hardware security device.
