Will financial contributions be deducatable taxwise? Lotje (talk) 09:05, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
- Yep, that is the long term goal. Once the chapter has a track record in handling money and using project funding of WMF, they tend to give the responsability for the fundraising to the chapters. But this would need tax deductable status. MADe (talk) 12:10, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Wikimedia Belgium? Or Wikimedia Flanders and Wikimedia Wallonia?
[edit]Is it useful to create a Wikimedia Belgium? The bilingual situation NL/FR (and don't forget the German speaking minority) can be a problem for this initiative. A Wikimedia Flanders and Wikimedia Wallonia can be an acceptable alternative but the most logical solution is that Flemings join Wikimedia NL and Walloons join Wikimedia FR (The German speaking community can join Wikimedia DE). - 78.21.19.32 18:20, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hey 78.21.19.32, thanks for your input. This has been a point of discussion for the last years, and one of the reasons why B is the only W-European country without chapter. Firstly, multilingual chapters work in other countries (Canada, Switserland); chapters are based on "country" level and not on language level, hence the existence of multiple French, Spanish, Portuguese, ... chapters. The lingua franca of the chapter would be English, not only to avoid the language discussion, but also to allow foreign people to join (some of the most active WM BE members are foreign). Lastly, the construction is the best to tap into governmental funding.
- I hope this answers your question. MADe (talk) 08:27, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
- As MADe said, a regional Wikimedia will not be accepted by the Wikimedia Foundation. Romaine (talk) 09:18, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
