WIKI LOVES MONUMENTS
IN BELGIUM AND LUXEMBOURG

Brussels, 28 November 2012 – The Wiki Loves Monuments prize giving ceremony for Belgium and Luxembourg will be held on the 30th of November at the Royal Institute of Cultural Heritage in Brussels from 19:00.

Last September, the world's largest photography competition took place around the globe with over 35 participating countries, including Belgium and Luxembourg. Organised by national chapters of the Wikimedia Foundation, which supports projects such as Wikipedia, the competition aims to create quality pictures of historic monuments and heritage sites. The project in Belgium and Luxembourg is run by volunteers dedicating their time and energy to make a digital archive of all registered monuments that is freely accessible and reusable for everybody.

During the past edition in 2011 the competition was held in 18 European countries and resulted in the creation of a collection of nearly 170,000 photographs, winning the Guinness record for the world's largest photography competition.

During the Wiki Loves Monuments contest, participants have imported their photos online under a free license. Everyone is invited to attend the prize giving ceremony on Friday, the 30th of November at 19:00 (doors open 18:30) at the at the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK/IRPA, Parc du Cinquantenaire 1) in Brussels.
