Bluesky

Bluesky is a social media platform, that has equivalent functionality as Twitter/X.

Actually Bluesky was founded by employees of Twitter/X that started a fork.

Mastodon gateway

There exist a Mastodon gateway.

Corporate handle

When you are the owner of a domain name, you can register with the domain. E.g.

https://bsky.app/profile/wikimedia.be @wikimedia.be

One can register a domain handle via a specific DNS TXT record. You can also register subdomains.

Then you no longer have a generic .bksy.social suffix. (this would have been better recognized as an alias).

Documentation

For Wikimedia Belgium, the following handle was created. Subdomains can also be used. The ID is unique for each profile.

Advantages

Less spam, advertising, hate messages, and fake news than with Twitter/X.

Following count is updated with delay

After following additional accounts, the following counter is not immediately updated.

Language versions

When using multiple languages you need to use separate accounts, that must not follow each other, to avoid confusing reader with the same message multiple times in different languages. Before posting a message you do have to log in separately each time in the right language account.

You have to click on ‘Settings’ and then ‘Switch accounts’. You have to ‘Add another account’ once. Don't create an account, just add it. This allows you to easily switch between the 3 accounts.
